Azinha is the cornerstone of the flying sites in Serra da Estrela. With its South facing take-off high above the valley it presents a stunning view towards Torre (the highest peak of Serra da Estrela mountain ridge and continental Portugal) and over the the river Zêzere.

Clube Vertical pioneered this site in 2003 and have been working with the local authorities, including the Natural Park and the Municipality of Manteigas to improve the road that climbs the mountain and the take-off itself.

Its tower is part of a network of fire prevention watch towers and became a common feature in paragliding pictures in Portugal.

This take-off, complemented with Vale de Amoreira, have hosted several major competitions, including Portuguese Championships, the Nordic Open and PWC stages.

Flight conditions: Due to the South exposure, with the Sun heating the slope, and the orographic characteristics of the spot, it is possible to fly with any wind direction, if the meteorological wind speed does not exceed 15km/h. If the meteorological wind is also south then it should be limited to 20km/h, with the thermal activity adding up to it, it normally works all day. East wind works until 18h and North and West wind until 15h. Ideal forecast is a light south or westerly wind.

Take a look at the site's photo galery.
